How To Jump Start Your Car Battery

Most people believe that jump starting your car is just a simple routine a cave man can do. But if you think more seriously; jumping a dead car battery is rather complex task, and it can be very dangerous if you do it incorrectly.

During your attempt to connect your jumper cable from one car to another car’s battery terminal, if done improperly, your car battery may explode like a bomb from the sparks created by connecting to the wrong terminal.  Dead battery as a result of leaving car’s headlight on for a couple of hours or overnight is common. In some case, the battery just gave up its capability to hold charges any longer. In this case, a new battery must be replaced. To make sure your battery is bad and need a replacement, let auto part store test it or you for free.

Below are instructions on how to connect your jumper cables to both cars:

1)              Park both cars in parallel if possible - side by side or closer to each other

2)              Take the red end (positive) cable of your jumper and clamp it to (+) post of the dead battery.

3)              Take the other red end (positive) cable and clamp it to (+) post of good battery

4)              Take the black end (negative) cable and clamp it to the (-) post of a good battery

5)              Take the other black end of your jumper cable and clamp it to the shinest metal of your engine block far away from battery
6)              Now, start the car (the one with good battery), and wait for a few minutes prior to starting the car with dead battery - doing so will allow your dead battery to recharge.

7)      Start the car with dead battery

8) disconnect black end cable form engine block first:  and disconnect other
     cable from batteries:
